Jacques Gatti was born in Algiers in 1927 into a family of marble workers. He was fascinated by painting from an early age and worked from nature in water-colour
under the supervision of such painters as René Guivarch and Gilbert Galland. In 1952 he
joined the Charles Ray studio in Algiers.
Until Algeria's independence he exhibited regularly at the Galerie Romanet in Algiers
and with Olga Monet in Oran.
In 1958 one of his works was acquired by the city of Paris. When he returned to France in 1965 he worked in advertising in Paris, toulon, Nice et Cannes. He now lives in Plan de la Tour (Var).
